Your Herniated Disc and a New Hope
Chiropractic Wellness Center
The human spinal cord consists of nerves that connect the brain to nerves in the body. It is a superhighway for messages between the brain and the rest of the body. The spinal cord is surrounded for most of its length by the bones that form the spine. If you look at the spine, it’s made up of these 24 individual bones, called vertebrae, tissues, ligaments and 31 sets of nerves exiting the spine. You have 23 discs in your spine and neck. Through accidents, age or general disc degeneration you can develop a herniated disc.
What is a Herniated Disc?
Your spinal discs have a soft “middle” and an outer ring. They connect the vertebrae that run down your back. Your discs remain healthy when they have blood and other fluids circulating through them. When they don’t get the nourishment they need, they can dry out and the soft middle “bulges” out.
The bulging alone isn’t the problem but rather when it’s putting pressure on a nearby nerve ending.
A Few Symptoms of a Herniated Disc:
• pain in your leg or leg(s)
• tingling, weakness or numbness in your legs, feet or arms
• sudden neck pain
If you’re feeling any of these symptoms and you live near New Hope, Pa., Dr. McQuaite, can help. He uses up to the minute methodologies to help you find relief from pain.
Starting with X-rays and a medical history, Dr. McQuaite and his chiropractic wellness center uses a holistic view of your “whole person” to treat the cause of your pain and not just your symptoms. Doctors of chiropractic are trained thoroughly in the way the spine works. They know how to find the subluxations and which methods will allow the herniated disc to heal itself.
There are many ways to treat a slipped disc including physical therapy and back surgery. However, surgery doesn’t always work and the recovery can leave you incapacitated for days or weeks. Chiropractic care can be a natural solution.
